History |
 |
|
In August 1985, the Animal Rescue Mission was
founded by a group of people who were united in their concern for the welfare of
animals, and the belief that they could make a difference to better the lives of
animals in the Alamogordo area. On October 25, 1985 the Animal Rescue Mission
was incorporated as a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization.
Over the years, the Animal Rescue Mission has rescued many animals in distress.
Many injured animals, that would have been put to sleep, received medical care
and went to caring homes. In the 18 years that ARM has been active in the area,
the organization has paid to have several thousand animals spayed and neutered
for citizens who could not afford the cost of this surgery.

In Oct 2003, we broke
ground for a no-kill sanctuary. The land (five acres)
was donated to this organization. The building will be
approx 1500 square feet. Check back for more progress. |

About Alamogordo |
|
Alamogordo
is a multi-cultural community with about 35,000 people. We
are located in the High Desert, close to the Sacramento
Mountains. The dry climate and warm sunny weather most of
the year, makes this an ideal retirement place.
Our ecologic diversity, between the mountains and the
desert, makes this town a great outdoor recreation area for
hiking, biking, hunting, rock collecting, para-gliding. In
the winter, the higher altitudes have snow for skiing and
sledding etc.
We're proud to have
Holloman Air Force Base here with American and German Air
Force personnel. Because of out diversity in our cultures,
you hear American, German, and Spanish about town.
Many events or festivals are held here during the
year: Oktoberfest (German), Cinco de Mayo (Spanish) and
military concerts are scheduled. Other recreations are the:
Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts, The I-Max
Theater, Space Museum, Zoo, Deserts Lakes Golf Club and
course, NM University performances and concerts, an
award-winning Senior Center and others.
Alamogordo is surrounded by pistachio and pecan groves.
AND...we cannot forget the famous "White Sands" worlds
largest gypsum field.
Our town has air and bus transportations and shuttle buses
to El Paso Airport.
Alamogordo also has many hotels, motels, eating places,
shopping areas, many good health services, vets, and a new
hospital. Close by you'll find: Oliver Lee Memorial State
Park, Lincoln National Park, Three Rivers Petroglyphs Park,
Lava Beds, Mescalero Apaches Reservation, Casino and Golf
Course.
